Amo 7:12-15 Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there: But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court. Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit: And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
There is a time and season for every purpose under the sun. In the book of Amos we find he was no prophet, nor son of a prophet. He was a farmer and herdsman.
Who gave him permission to speak in the name of the Lord? Who called him and sent him? As surely as God decides the direction of the wind and the tide of the waters, He is still the Creator even above our chief joy.
And in a time and a season God reaches in and sends whom he pleases. Someone once said, "Some are sent and some just went." Even so, it is God who will decide which is true.
In a day when so many do what is right in their own eyes, when ministries are built on something other than a calling from God and Anointing, it has become even more wise to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord with us. If God called you He will equip you.
A prophet may be dormant for days, weeks and years until the time and season awakes him or her to move and do thus saith the Lord. So it was with Amos, Elijah, Deborah and a host of prophets from the Old to New Testament.
We live in a time when everyone is in a hurry to get somewhere. Waiting on the Lord is being replaced with im-patience.
In the Scripture above we see when Amos moved in God's season he was not popular. He was threatened and persecuted. Popularity is no sign of calling.
When God calls, you can be sure whether you are a farmer, a herdsman or have had no history of ministers in your family, he will not allow you to be mistaken in what you are called to do or when as concerning the ministry. If he has you waiting or moved you to do something else in the mean time, do it until He calls, because a wrong time and season bears no fruit for the Kingdom of God.
Because of Jesus
